Most of you who follow me on a consistent basis know that I have a great deal of admiration and respect for the late Jim Rohn.  He focused on the fundamentals of human behavior that most affected personal and business performance.

His is the standard to which those who seek to teach and inspire others are compared. He possessed the unique ability to bring extraordinary insights to ordinary principles and events, and the combination of his substance and style captures the imagination of those who heard or read his words.  Mr. Rohn is known as one of the great wordsmiths of our time.

When I watched this video, I just had to share it with you.

5 Ways for High Achieving Women to Upgrade Their Business for Growth Success and Acceleration 5 Ways for High Achieving Women to Upgrade Their Business for Growth, Success and Acceleration Change is inevitable. Many believe that being a high-achieving woman entrepreneur is the fast track to personal growth. As an entrepreneur, the challenge does exist to always explore new frontiers and learn new skills because the marketplace is ever changing.

These high-achieving women entrepreneurs have also learned that in this ever-changing marketplace they must continuously upgrade their business model, systems, value, products and services as well.

So what are the 5 Ways for High-Achieving Women to Upgrade Their Business for Growth, Success and Acceleration?

#1. Think On Your Feet – Be Resourceful

Being a woman of many talents and skills doesn’t mean you have to do everything yourself but it does come in handy when you’re looking for solutions. Being resourceful gives you more tools in your toolbox for thinking on your feet.

#2. Manage Your Time – So It Doesn’t Manage You

Women are master jugglers because we always seem to take on more than we can handle sometimes. Managing your time is simply about setting boundaries, employing proper planning, learning to say ‘no’ and delegating whenever you can.

#3. Makes Mistakes – But Learn From Them

Here’s my mantra, “It’s not a mistake if you learn from it.” When things don’t work out, figure out what can be done better, faster, easier or completely different.

As Thomas Edison once said: “We now know a thousand ways not to build a light bulb.”

#4. Keep Your Promises – Meet Your Deadlines

How you show up in your business IS your reputation – to your clients, peers and team. Only make commitments you will follow through on and if something comes up that delays you, move mountains to make it happen or make it right when it doesn’t.

#5. But Don’t Let Emotions Take Over – Work From Your Heart

Your business is an extension and expression of who you are – always come from the heart in the work you do. Make a conscious decision not to let your emotions control your work in a negative way.

Always, always, always make value your main priority and make sure that you have a dynamic coach or mentor whose focus is growth, success and acceleration.  Value and a coach or mentor will also upgrade your business for the long-term success.

Are You The Master of Your Thinking?

Posted March 11th, 2012 by Dr. Laureen Wishom and filed in Business Growth

I received a call the other day from Diane, an old acquaintance, and she was having some challenges in her personal and business life.  She had some decisions to make and she said: “I am out of control with my thinking and I am not sure what to do – there are too many voices in my head”.

While listening to her, reminded me of so many people who are not the masters of their thinking.  They are so busy copying, comparing and competing with co-workers, peers, other career professionals and business owners, entrepreneurs, friends and family members.

After Diane and I talked for awhile, I discovered she was not really out of control; she just needed some quiet time to look at her choices and then make the right decisions.  I sent her the below video and made five suggestions:

Here are the five suggestions:

Suggestion #1. Recognize you have choices

Choices equal power. By asking the question, “What are my choices,” you have already reclaimed the power that having choices brings. That is the key to reclaiming mental mastery instead of being sucked into the ‘poor me’ or ‘only if’ mentality.

Suggestion #2. Define your commitment

One of my affirmations is “by our choices we reveal our commitments.” By checking in with yourself and addressing your commitments, you lay the foundation to take responsibility for your results.

If you are really committed to being happy in your personal and business life, you will make better choices.

Suggestion #3. Master your thinking

What stories and half-truths are you telling yourself? For example do you tell yourself that you are too old, too fat, too skinny, not able to learn all of this new stuff, not good at business, or not equipped to make sound decisions? These are stories instead of facts.

Instead of being a slave to your thoughts becomes a master over them.

Suggestion #4. Identify the real problem

Sometimes it’s just easier to get attached to the drama and the story than to make a commitment to change.  Perhaps the real problem is that you aren’t applying your creativity enough or not spending enough time caring for yourself and identifying the real problem, possibly “YOU”.

Suggestion #5. Release resistance

Stuck energy sometimes needs to be moved. When you make this conscious choice to release the resistance, you put yourself back in control instead of being a victim to being stuck and negative.  Master your thinking, ask better questions and your energy will shift, positive results are sure to follow.

What other suggestions would you recommend to someone for mastering their thinking?  Here’s a better question:  Are You The Master of Your Thinking?

The 5 ‘Must Dos’ for Growth, Success and Acceleration

5mustdos The 5 ‘Must Dos’ for Growth, Success and AccelerationIn my book, How to Become Fit, Fine and Fabulous in Career Business and Life, which will be released this summer, I discuss those things that can may a difference in helping you ‘Get on Your Dime, Create Your Exclusive Space and Take It to a Whole “NEW” Level’™.

In the book, I share these 5 ‘Must Dos’ along with other great techniques for career success and business growth.

If these 5 ‘Must Dos’ are done on a consistent basis, you can expect to have GSA = extensive business “Growth, more Success and revenue Acceleration”™.

1. Meditate

The worst thing you can do for your business is start each day in a race. I am a strong believer in preparing for your day before you jump into it. I start each day with prayer. I find that I am able to keep a positive outlook throughout my day regardless of what happens because I started prayer.

When you start your day thinking about what you are grateful for; it allows you to keep your perspective when things go wrong.

Running a successful small business involves ten or more jobs at one time. My recommendation is to slow down and mediate before you start your day.

2. Know your cash flow situation

You simply must know what your cash flow is every single day or you could lose your business. At minimum, you should run your business based on a 90-day cash flow projection.

You need to know how much money is coming in and what money needs to go out on a daily basis. You also need to stay on top of what invoices need to go out and what the payment procedure is for each of your clients.

I recommend starting collections procedures (reminders) the first day after your money is past due. Never hesitate to call your client or the bank to get clarity about your cash flow situation.

No matter what accounting software you use or what bookkeeper you hire, as the owner of the business you must know your cash flow situation every day.

3. Set aside 2 hours a day for business development

Everyday, work on getting in front of someone who can buy your products or services every day. Remember, sales is the life’s blood of your business. Each day you must conduct business development activities in order to stay ahead of the competition.

You can make calls, write emails, send thank you notes, etc. Search for conferences and trade shows to attend, develop signature content and use social media to build relationships and generate leads.

Always make it a priority to spend at least two hour a day generating new business.

4. Follow-up with three existing connections

People do business with people they know, like and trust, but you must nurture those relationships. Reach out to existing clients you haven’t spoken too in a while. Give one to three recommendations on LinkedIn. Send a personal note on Facebook.  Make three calls or send follow-up notes with an article you read in the New York Times, the Washington Post or a magazine.

5. Get your plan together for the next day

I recommend doing 5 things before 11 am.  You must devote two intense hours to one of the five tasks and the remainder of the time you work on the other four projects which should be completed over the next few days.

I make my list of the five things at the end of each day so I have a game plan for my next day. This is my secret to sleeping well at night.

Are you willing to make the commitment to start on The 5 ‘Must Dos’ for Growth, Success and Acceleration?
